While the sound can be hot in the mix, front and center, synthesizing an absurd sound, with an 80s touch, it is also used in a more subliminal way to lift a track up out of a crowded mix, overcoming masking through the artificial extension of duration. Short, transient sounds like so much hand percussion are good candidates.
